The #1 Secret of the World’s Most Successful People
The secret to success might surprise you
About 12-months ago, John and I began studying the 24-hour daily routines of some of the world’s most successful people.
These people included business leaders, military commanders, Navy SEALs, and highly successful entrepreneurs, among many others.
What is the #1 secret to their success?
How did these people create the life/business of their dreams while the rest of us feel stuck and frustrated?
The answer might surprise you…and the best part is…IT CAN BE TAUGHT AND LEARNED.
Oh, and this isn’t just some idea or theory we made up. In fact, it’s not even our idea. It’s been thought about, taught, and learned since the days of Plato and Aristotle.
And even better, it’s rooted in biology, not psychology. It’s already been programmed deep inside your brain. But, you need to understand how to unlock it…
The ONE Difference
What we uncovered is that highly successful people have structured their lives so well, that their behaviors have become automatic…their success has become a habit.
Not luck, not an accident, but HABIT.
That’s it…the most successful people in the world have mastered the power of habit.
And if they can do it, you can do it, and we’ll show you how.
The Habit Loop
Highly successful people understand their habit loops…aka WHY they do the things they do.
Surprisingly, most of the choices we make each day may feel like the products of well-considered decision making, but they’re not. They’re habits. They are the result of the habit loop, which can be broken down into three basic steps.
- There is a cue, a trigger that tells your brain to go into automatic mode. The cue can be internal, such as a feeling or thought, or external, such as a time of day or the company of certain people (which is why it’s easier to exercise among our running buddies, but harder to study when our friends are in the library).
- There is a routine, which is the behavior that leads to the reward. The routine can be physical (eating a donut), cognitive (“remember for the test”), or emotional (“I always feel anxious in math class”).
- The reward. Not surprisingly, the reward can also be physical (sugar!), cognitive (“that’s really interesting”), or emotional (“I always feel relaxed in front of the TV.”). The reward determines if a particular habit loop is worth remembering.
How to Copy the Strategy and Tactics of the World’s Most Successful People
We now know that at the core of the world’s most successful people are great habits, which can be thought of as the “tactics.” They are the daily actions you take that become habits.
But, there is also a bigger picture theme for how highly successful people want to live their lives, which can be thought of as the “strategy.” This is the winning game-plan that makes the tactics possible.
Strategy = Strategic Life Plan
Tactics = Daily Schedule and Action Plan
John and I believe every person on earth should create a (1) Strategic Life Plan and a (2) Daily Schedule and Action Plan.
The reason is because people need structure, and structure leads to routine, and routinely leads to habit. By doing so, your success can and will become automatic…it becomes a habit.

I can totally see this being true. Once we create the habits that bring us success, we begin doing those things automatically.
Question: I see you list watching TV as a reward. I’ve seen many “successful” people say no TV and other types of entertainment. It’s been something I’ve struggled with as I’ve been on the journey. Do you think it’s an oversimplification when they say they don’t watch TV or go to the movies or listen to music?
Everything in moderation. I watch very little TV. Maybe a few hours total each week. I do like to have movie night with the family occasionally. When I’m in the car I don’t listen to the radio anymore. I am always listening to a podcast or an audible book. My care is my traveling university!
I’m with you on the moderation thing. I wonder if so many preach total abstinence from these things because they feel like people might not be able to moderate successfully.
PS: Loving your podcast. The last couple of episodes with the summit guests have been fantastic listening.
